We sat down with Nikki Jeffery, Founder and Director of The Staging Experts - an interior design and property staging business based in the Midlands, serving clients nationally. We sat down and had a chat to find out what is shaping homes this summer.
I’m Nikki Jeffery, Founder and Director of The Staging Experts, an interior design and property staging business based in the Midlands and serving clients nationally, regularly supporting Connells Group in staging new build show homes. We are a female-led, family-run business and work across a wide variety of projects, from designing beautiful homes for clients to live in, through to staging properties for sale to help them stand out in the market and connect emotionally with buyers.
For us, interiors are about far more than aesthetics alone. It’s about creating spaces that feel welcoming, effortless and personal - homes that not only look beautiful, but truly work for the people living in them.
What is particularly refreshing this year is that homeowners are becoming more considered in the way they approach interior trends. Rather than redesigning entire spaces every season, many are investing in timeless core furniture pieces and updating their rooms through styling and accessories instead.
A beautifully curved neutral sofa, natural wood furniture or timeless linen bedding can act as the foundation of a home for years, whilst cushions, throws, artwork and seasonal linens bring in colour, texture and personality throughout the year. It is a far more sustainable approach to interiors - and one that often creates homes that feel more elevated and personal as a result.
Greens are definitely having a moment, particularly softer sage tones and earthy olive shades that help bring the outdoors in and create a calming atmosphere within the home.
Alongside that, we’re seeing warmer neutrals replacing cooler greys and stark whites. Think soft beiges, warm taupes, sandy tones and natural stone colours that create depth and softness within a space.
What’s lovely is that these colours work beautifully layered together. They create homes that feel calm, timeless and welcoming without feeling too trend-led.
People are living outdoors much more now, and that connection between inside and outside living is hugely influencing interiors.
We’re seeing homes styled with a much more natural flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces, whether that’s through colour palettes, textures, furniture choices or styling details.
Interestingly, many homeowners are becoming slightly more playful outdoors. Whilst interiors may lean into calming neutrals and timeless foundations, outdoor spaces often become the place for brighter prints, layered textures and more relaxed styling. The key is ensuring the home still feels cohesive.
Absolutely, but sustainability now feels much more connected to longevity and thoughtful purchasing rather than simply following trends.
People are becoming more conscious about investing in timeless furniture pieces they truly love and then updating spaces more seasonally through styling, soft furnishings and accessories rather than replacing everything constantly.
People are moving away from disposable interiors and towards homes that evolve more thoughtfully over time. That approach is not only more sustainable but often creates more personal and elevated homes too. A timeless neutral foundation allows homeowners to adapt their interiors beautifully over time without needing to redesign an entire space every few years.
More than anything, I think people want their homes to feel like a sanctuary.
The world feels incredibly busy, so people are craving homes that feel calming, grounding and emotionally restorative. We’re seeing a huge desire for spaces that slow life down slightly. Think layered textures, softer colours, natural materials, atmospheric lighting and thoughtful styling that creates warmth and comfort.
People still want homes to feel beautiful and aspirational, but they also want them to feel personal, functional and easy to live in.
People no longer want homes that simply look beautiful - they want homes that support the way they live, work, rest and connect.
